Mechanical Art of Surgeon-Turned-Sculptor, Ben Thal

Ben Thal, Sculptor
1932-
Edmonds, Washington
When semi-retired Ear, Nose and Throat surgeon, Ben Thal, puts down his scalpel and picks up his carving knife, fantastic wind-powered whirligigs become a sight for your eyes.  With over 100 hours going into each piece, and reluctant to sell his masterpieces, Ben prices them as to discourage buyers.  But that doesn’t mean that they can’t be enjoyed.  He has had over 2 dozen shows at such renowned institutions as the Museum of American Folk Art in New York City, American Visionary Arts Museum in Baltimore and Seattle Center’s Folklife Festival.
His work can also be enjoyed from the comfort of your computer screen…check out more of Ben’s art on his YouTube gallery.
